Seishukan Karate Seattle

I moved to Seattle after living and studying Karate in Japan for almost 30 years. I studied Shito-Ryu Karate from Sensei Nishida Minoru in Tokyo before his passing in December 2016.

His Seishukan Dojos continue in Japan and many other countries.  Seishukan translates to, "The house of constantly working to improve your technique."

For over 50 years, this goal has been taken very seriously there and my goal is to continue that Seishukan philosophy here in Seattle.

BUDO KARATE : I teach budo karate in the Shito-Ryu tradition. This is the martial arts focus of Karate and it is very different from the “Sports karate” that you may have seen in competitions. In budo karate, the emphasis is on practical application for self-defense.

PRACTICE : We practice both kata and bunkai meticulously--analyzing, critiquing, and refining the movements over months and years. Power in Karate comes not from muscle but from correct technique; correct technique comes from mind, breath, and body working in perfect coordination. This takes time; there are no shortcuts. Sustained practice will re-wire the way that your mind and body operate.

SAFETY : In all aspects of practice, we emphasize safety.

STUDENTS : The class size is limited to only a small amount of students. This allows me to give full attention to each student. All levels from any style are welcome, if space is available. I expect you to work hard at learning and to practice between classes. Ages 13 and older.
